Soren was a young herbalist, aspiring to help heal those who needed it. He took to growing his own plants and herbs, helping keep stock at the apothecary or selling to those who wanted his plants for whatever needs they had. He was also a natural mage, who needed not much instruction on bending the water element to his needs. Everyday, he would redirect water from a nearby source and water his plants, keeping notes and tending to his tidy garden. And with this ability, he was often called on to help put out fires.
One day, as usual, he set out into the Wilds to gather some plants; additions to his well-kept garden. But he was attacked by the rumored monster of the Wilds. He doesn’t remember the incident too well... Except that he was tossed around, and the strong grip of the gloating beast’s claws around his fragile neck- Squeezing all too tight to breathe. In a feeble struggle, he somehow managed to used his spilled blood to distract and harass the monster, giving him just enough time to escape back to Cignea, away from the shrieking roars of an enraged creature.
Soren doesn’t even recall if he even made it back, but he awoke in at the apothecary, severely traumatized from the brutal near-death experience and completely mute. It took him a week before his wounds healed, putting him back to his duties: caring for his garden and working at the store. And a short while after to communicate to others with his magic, forming the water into single words or short sentences.
The scars never faded, leaving it as a nasty reminder of very real monster that lurked in the Wilds. And the proof that one managed to escape death.
